Whoever buys Gawker/Kinja would have no incentive to just throw Oppo away is the gist, but I can’t find it, so, irony I guess?

Well, if they don’t I hope they at least stop the constant evolution of kinja and iron the wrinkles out.
Kinja would be great if they weren’t constantly updating and breaking stuff.

the only good thing that came out of the whole gawker/hogan/thiel thing is that this might be the only way to get rid of kinja for good.
Long live kinja free oppo!

Nor keep it, for that matter. I would miss Oppo.

Well, suppose you are a new owner of some website with a ton of blogs and stuff. You do a cost/benefit analysis of each aspect. You get to Oppositelock. I assume there is some cost to hosting the site. But there is also a perceived cost of the risk of letting strangers post stuff on your website.
The benefit? The site is not monetized so it generates no actual income. Feel free to jump in here and insert -> X <- whatever it is that you think a total stranger/investor/buyer will find beneficial about Oppo.
Not trying to be a downer here - just a realist.

I actually like kinja... what I don’t like is this constant f-ing around trying to “improve” it and just breaking it.

That’s exactly how I feel too, Steve.
Some things get FP’d and that is a source of revenue, but is that enough to cover the costs involved?

You may have noticed that nothing from Oppo has been front paged in a month or so (so that has even gone away).
And, to add to the mix, a large number of the articles on Oppo openly attack and insult the front page, Jalopnik, its editors, other Gawker sites and Gawker corporate. Some might wonder if that will continue with the new owner. If I was that new owner, I know I would wonder.

I still have never seen the most recent update to the UI. Still on the old stuff.

It’s gone. Apparently even the kinja devs realized it was shit

I guess it’s something they are going to have to weigh. I don’t know what the participation rate/click rate of Oppo members to FP articles is but I’d think it would be pretty high, and offering us a place to discuss things among ourselves helps keep people active here.
However that doesn’t address Gawker bashing, etc.
As far as the articles go, I saw that they were pulling up popular/harder-hitting posts which I figured were to try and boost value.
